At West River Meats, We Know Quality.

A local farm boy, Don Thul grew up in Northwest Iowa raising cattle and pigs with his father.  Don worked for Iowa Beef Producers for eighteen years, prior to opening Thul’s West River Meats in 2001.  That first facility was lost in 2015 to a devastating fire.  Eight years later, Don has built a new state-of-the-art facility, one block east of his prior business, in Rutland, Iowa.  

Don and his son Nick have over 40 years of combined experience in meat processing.  The expansion continues of this new meat processing facility; with the goal of opening a new storefront and adding a large walk-in freezer. 

Don’s insistence on high standards and his relationships with local livestock producers continue to make West River Meats an exceptional choice.
